Building Tomorrow: CodeNext's Role in Mulock Park's Evolution

As CodeNext Inc. proudly contributes to the groundbreaking Mulock Park project, the Town of Newmarket's 16-acre cultural and nature destination, a new chapter in community space development is unfolding. Led by PLANT Architect Inc., this ambitious venture signifies more than just physical transformation — it's a testament to CodeNext's commitment to excellence in Building and Fire Code expertise.

In 2018, the Town of Newmarket acquired the Mulock Property, a 19th-century manor house and core of a historic 250-acre estate. Choosing a community space over historical reconstruction, the Town enlisted PLANT Architect Inc. in 2019. This marked the beginning of a multi-faceted project encompassing recreational spaces, artistic expression, historic education, and reflection.

Mulock Park is more than just a physical space; it's a reflection of community values. Through extensive community consultations involving over 3,000 local residents, a vision emerged for an inclusive park that celebrates nature, culture, and diversity. This resulted in a design for a new outdoor skating rink, an artist residence and a conservatory space to welcome school groups and other learning groups in addition to cultural  events, weddings, etc.. CodeNext Inc. played a crucial role in aligning this vision with the necessary regulatory frameworks.

As a key player in the project, CodeNext Inc. worked with the design team and local authorities to develop an approach to Code compliance for each of the respective buildings. This included developing an approach to allow timely fire department response, while maintaining the landscaping of the park. This collaboration was critical in ensuring adherence to the Ontario Building Code while maintaining the park's masterplan and vision. As a result, the Mulock property can become not only a cultural and nature haven but also a safe and compliant space for the community.

With construction initiated in 2021, CodeNext Inc.'s ongoing collaboration with PLANT Architect Inc. is set to continue until 2025. The anticipated opening of Mulock Park in 2026 signals not just the completion of a construction project but the realization of a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable community space.

Mulock Park is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Town of Newmarket, PLANT Architect Inc., and CodeNext Inc. Together, they are creating a space that not only respects history but also paves the way for a sustainable, inclusive, and compliant future. This project represents a harmonious blend of community vision, architectural excellence, and Code Compliance.
