PANDEMIC RESPONSE UNITS

PROJECT INFORMATION

COMPANY: Pandemic Response Units

LOCATION: Various Locations across Ontario

DATE: 2020

In response to the urgent COVID-19 pandemic, regulations were enacted under the Emergencies Act to exempt the construction of temporary health facilities. The swift timelines posed unconventional challenges, making typical construction protocols impractical. Consequently, the design of Pandemic Response Units (PRU's) relied on sound engineering practices and recommended fire protection and life safety measures. Permanent Ontario Building Code requirements were unfeasible within the requested timeframe for these temporary structures.

Our pivotal contributions included:

Expertise in Health Care: Drawing upon our extensive knowledge in healthcare, CodeNext Inc. played a compulsory role in the safe design of these temporary facilities.

Tackling Unique Challenges: PRU's, characterized by their temporary nature and unorthodox construction, presented distinctive fire and life safety challenges.

Collaboration and Compliance: We collaborated extensively with a dedicated design team and local building departments to develop facilities that ensured the protection of vulnerable occupants.

Swift Execution: Over the course of a year, facilities were successfully constructed at Joseph Brant Hospital (Burlington), The Ottawa Hospital (Ottawa), Trillium Health Partners (Mississauga), and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (Barrie).

CodeNext Inc.'s commitment to safety and compliance was instrumental in swiftly and effectively addressing the critical healthcare needs during the pandemic.
