CodeNext Inc. was retained by Cando Rail & Terminals to provide specialized Rail transportation fire safety consulting services for the West Terminal Expansion project in Sturgeon County, Alberta. This significant infrastructure development involves a major extension of the existing rail terminal.
Our key contributions include:
Integrated Fire Protection Analysis: We conducted a comprehensive review of applicable National Building and Fire Codes (Alberta Editions), alongside specialized railway standards such as Transport Canada TP14877 and Railway Association of Canada circulars in support of the development permit.
Risk Assessment Support: Our team assisted in the development of the project hazard assessment by providing technical analysis of safety guidelines and construction standards for complex facility components.
Lifecycle Fire Safety Planning: CodeNext Inc. has been involved in the development of Fire Safety Plans to protect the site during the expansion phase and to support the documentation of long-term site safety and emergency procedures.
Strategic Stakeholder Coordination: We acted as a technical liaison to Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure the facility-wide fire and life safety strategy aligned with applicable Codes and standards and also the local emergency response capabilities and expectations.
Engineering Rationale & Compliance: We reviewed risks, conducted analysis of relevant Codes and standards, and summarized our findings in detailed reports that identified the fire protection and life safety objectives for the site.
