ESPACE MONTMORENCY INTEGRATED SYSTEMS TESTING
PROJECT INFORMATION
COMPANY: Groupe Montoni
LOCATION: Laval, Quebec
DATE: 2025
CodeNext Inc. provided specialized Integrated Systems Testing (IST) services for Espace Montmorency, a landmark mixed-use facility in Laval, Quebec. Spanning over 120,000 m2, this complex includes a Marriott Hotel, residential units, an office tower, commercial spaces, and an multi-level underground parking garage that is interconnected and linked to the STM Metro Montmorency station.
Our role was to confirm that all fire protection and life safety systems operate as a cohesive, integrated network in accordance with the Quebec Construction Code and the provisions of the facility’s design.
Our key contributions include:
Standard-Driven Testing Protocols: in conjunction with the building design team, we developed and executed a comprehensive testing plan following ULC-S1001, "Standards for Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems," as required by the City of Laval.
Complex System Synchronization: Our team coordinated the testing of diverse interconnected systems, including an addressable fire alarm with voice communication (8 control panels), sprinklers, fire pumps, smoke control (stairwell pressurization), elevator recall, and emergency generators.
Technical Committee Expertise: The project was led by a CodeNext certified, Level 4 IST Coordinator. The team also included an active member of the UL Technical Committee responsible for developing the ULC-S1001 integrated systems testing standard, ensuring the highest level of technical accuracy and industry compliance.
Stakeholder Management: CodeNext facilitated collaboration between system contractors, engineers, and building designers to establish the sequence of operations and verify the functional integrity of all life safety integrations.
Bilingual Regulatory Reporting: We managed the preparation and submission of detailed preliminary and final integrated systems testing reports in both English and French to satisfy the requirements of the Client and the City of Laval Fire Prevention Safety Office.
This project highlights our ability to manage large-scale, high-density residential and commercial integrations while meeting the rigorous safety standards of the Quebec regulatory environment.
